Why you need a life logbook and what it is.
The best way to fill an evening with memories and laughter.
One evening at Grandma’s, a question comes up about the price of the ferry the family went on twenty years ago, that my uncle had recently travelled on. Instead of wondering, Grandma goes to her room and returns with that year’s life logbook. She looks up the trip, not only recalling the price change of the ferry over twenty years but she can bring up many wonderful details about the trip. All of a sudden the evening is filled with memories and so much laughter.
Grandma has always kept a life logbook. She doesn’t complain or talk about people’s behaviour in the life logbook, which is why it is more of a logbook than a diary. This way they are ‘open’ books for any of the family to see and reminisce about what happened, and all the interesting little facts we enjoy going back over. From her pulling these out at most family gatherings, they have been a wonderful account of our family’s life. She keeps one by the year as is her preference and keeps it to the facts of each day.
A life logbook helps us remember how far we have come, what happened, and so many little details that photos miss. They are so interesting for children to look back on as they grow and wonder what the family did in daily life as they
begin to raise their own family. They are brilliant at filling an evening with connection and appreciation for our lives together.
